Laura Blankenship, Ph.D., Interim Director of Professional Learning at the International Consortium of Girls’ Schools will be the GLSAA speaker on Tuesday, October 1 at 2 pm EDT. Her presentation will focus on public girls’ schools, which have seen a resurgence in the last 10-20 years. She will examine key milestones and significant changes in legal and societal contexts. Her presentation will also explore the current state of all-girls public schools, including their geographic distribution, modern educational approaches, and the challenges and opportunities they face today, using examples from ICGS member schools.
On Tuesday, October 29 at 2 pm EDT, she will present Part 2: Current Research on All-Girls Schools. This will include key research highlighting the benefits of all-girls schools as well as areas where findings are less conclusive. Save the date.
Laura Blankenship, Ph.D.
is Interim Director of Professional Learning at the International Consortium of Girls’ Schools (ICGS), the leading advocate for girls’ schools. She earned a B.A. in English from Rhodes College, Memphis TN and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Arkansas. She has developed a career dedicated to girls’ and women’s education. At Bryn Mawr College, she ran a program to teach young women web development and technical skills. Then, at the Baldwin School (PreK-12, an all-girls’ school) she served as Computer Science Department Chair and later as the Dean of Academic Affairs and finally as Assistant Head of School. She is a veteran school educator and administrator, and the Founding Head of School at San Francisco Girls’ School. Previously, she represented school members of the ICGS and is now serving girls’ schools within the organization.
